We have a bespoke programme to ensure we are fulfilling our duty to keep children safe. Staff are trained to be able to identify children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation. At Pleckgate High School we take seriously the nature of building pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling them to challenge extremist views.

This is done by:

  • During super learning days pupils take part in PREVENT workshops which are delivered in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the Community Safety Team
  • Regular yearly staff training on PREVENT and how to identify children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation, and know what to do when they are identified
  • A bespoke PSHE curriculum which is woven into lessons across the normal curriculum
  • We have a tutor programme which has a system of pupils voting for what they believe is right (votes for schools) where they then compare this to a national picture
  • Trained safeguarding officers who the pupils and staff are aware of and how they can speak to them as required for support and advice
