The 2024–2025 cricket season will go down as one of the most outstanding in the history of Pleckgate High School. In an unprecedented display of talent, teamwork, and determination, our school teams triumphed across all age groups – winning every single cricket league they entered.
From Year 7, Year 8, and the combined Year 9 & 10 team, every squad finished the season top of the table, bringing pride and prestige to Pleckgate through their exceptional performances on the field.
Our Year 7 team made an explosive entrance to competitive cricket, showing maturity well beyond their years. Their unbeaten run was built on strong teamwork, sharp fielding, and consistent performances. Atif impressed with calm and confident batting, laying solid foundations in every game and Khadijah gave an outstanding all-rounder, proved pivotal with both bat and ball.
The team also reached the final of the Lancashire tournament, competing against schools across the county, narrowly missing out on the trophy. Their league win marks the beginning of a very bright cricketing future.
The Year 8 team proved equally dominant, driven by a ruthless winning mentality and a real sense of unity. Their matches were marked by powerful hitting, disciplined bowling, and togetherness. Zain provided fast starts at the top of the order, putting pressure on opposing bowlers and Junaid added reliability and flair, often finishing games in style and contributing with the ball. Together, they delivered another league victory, extending Pleckgate’s streak of excellence.
The combined Year 9 & 10 team blended the energy of Year 9 with the experience of Year 10, forming a formidable side. Against tough opposition, they rose to the occasion time and again. Shawaiz (Year 9) emerged as the top run-scorer, showing class and consistency. Pardesi (Year 10), the captain, was a standout leader whose tactical awareness guided the team. He finished the season as the leading wicket-taker, regularly producing match-winning spells.
This clean sweep across all age groups is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of our students and staff. Every team played with heart, discipline, and pride in representing Pleckgate.
