Eight of our pupils recently took part in an exciting and action-packed Mega Day at Blackburn College, centred around cutting-edge topics including artificial intelligence (AI), open-source intelligence (OSINT), and coding. The event offered a unique opportunity for students to step outside the classroom and apply their digital skills in real-world scenarios.
The day kicked off with a high-energy robotics challenge, where pupils used their coding knowledge to program robots to navigate a racetrack with accuracy and speed. It was a test of logic, problem-solving, and teamwork as they refined their code to guide the robots through increasingly complex routes.
Next, the pupils became digital detectives in a GeoGuessr challenge, using OSINT tools to analyse visual clues and pinpoint global locations. This hands-on task gave them insight into how data and technology are used in real-world investigations, reinforcing the power and responsibility that come with digital skills.
Creativity also played a major role throughout the day. Pupils explored the world of generative AI, using tools to recreate and transform images in imaginative ways. They experimented with combining technology and art, producing visually striking and conceptually rich AI-generated designs.
Throughout the event, innovation and collaboration were at the heart of every challenge. Our pupils not only strengthened their technical abilities but also gained a deeper understanding of how these skills can be used across different industries and career paths.
The Mega Day was a fantastic experience, inspiring our pupils to think bigger, aim higher, and see just how far their talents can take them in the world of digital technology.
