Year 7 Travel Back in Time at Skipton Castle

Year 7 pupils recently had the chance to immerse themselves in the world of Medieval England during an exciting educational trip to Skipton Castle.

The visit offered a hands-on experience of life in a medieval fortress, as pupils explored the castle’s historic grounds and buildings. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, the group toured key parts of the castle, including the gloomy dungeon, the bustling medieval kitchen, and even the castle toilet!

Throughout the tour, pupils heard fascinating stories that brought history vividly to life. Highlights included learning about the three-year siege of Skipton Castle during the English Civil War, the daily life of peasants who worked in the kitchens, and the surprising contents of the moat, which helped to deter unwanted visitors.

“The visit really brought our lessons on Castles this year to life,” said History Teacher Mrs Wood. “To be able to experience such an ancient building close up, and hear some of its secrets, made for a great day out.”

The trip was not only informative but also sparked a new level of excitement and curiosity about history among the pupils, who came away with a deeper understanding of medieval life and the importance of castles in British history.
