Staff at Pleckgate High School proudly took part in the One Voice Blackburn initiative “I’m Not a Muslim, But I Will Fast for One Day.”
Jenny Savage, Keely Knight, Sarah Belshaw, Martyn Bajkowski, Charlie Whittaker and Joan Taylor all fasted for the day, with several of them already regular supporters of the campaign.
Jenny Savage said: “This initiative always helps me feel empathy for colleagues and pupils fasting for the whole month.”
Sarah Belshaw added: “The tiredness made me truly appreciate how pupils manage to stay focused throughout lessons.”
Charlie Whittaker said: “It’s a humbling experience that makes you think about those without daily food.”
Joan Taylor is also fasting as it coincides with Lent this year.
Claire Langfield reflected on the experience, saying: “The lack of fluids made focusing difficult, but it has given great insight into how challenging fasting can be for pupils during lessons, exams and trips.”
A great show of support, empathy and understanding across our school community.
