Welcome from the Head Boy
Hello and welcome to Pleckgate!
I am delighted to introduce you to our outstanding school. Right from when you first step foot in the school you will feel the welcoming environment that it is. With our wide range of facilities like the IT suite, Astroturf, sports hall and fitness suite plus much more it will give you something to look forward to when you finally come in September.
From my experience I know that the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is very scary as everything is different, from the amount of people to the size of the school. From your first day you will feel welcomed by all the older students as everyone is very helpful and friendly. For me, all I had to do was ask anyone to point me in the right direction for my lesson and which room to go to and they would straight away tell me where to go.
You may think that making new friends will be hard but I can assure you that this won’t be the case. There will be some familiar faces from your primary school but other than that everyone will seem like a stranger. However, you will be put in a tutor group and you will see everyone in your tutor group every morning. So this is a good way to make many new friendships.
Also there are many different changes from Year 6, mostly with the school day timings and finding your way round the building, but within a week or two you will get the hang of it I promise.
Going into Year 7 there are many different opportunities, especially with extracurricular activities such as football, badminton, table tennis and netball, which may be at lunchtime or after school. For me these are great fun and help you to improve in whichever activity you choose. I am now ten times better at football since Year 7 so I would definitely encourage you to take part in any extracurricular activities.
As well as the extracurricular activities there will be different subjects that may be new to you such as music, drama, food technology and French.
Something else you can look forward to and which will also be new to you are the Super Learning Days. These are days when you don’t have any lessons but instead you do fun activities in your tutor groups.
I wish you all the best and look forward to meeting you when you come in September.
