The physical education curriculum at Pleckgate High School is designed to inspire, challenge and motivate pupils to be the best they can be. We offer a curriculum that allows every pupil to find a challenging sport or activity that provides opportunities to develop their physical capabilities.
Our curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum and allows pupils to excel in a broad range of physical activities; Pleckgate pupils learn traditional sports, as well as more unusual activities such as handball and orienteering. We want pupils to engage in competitive sports and activities in lessons and in wider school, local and national fixtures and competitions. Pupils are also encouraged to lead healthy, active lives and how to make healthy choices throughout all programmes of study.
The PE curriculum is differentiated for each learner and we focus on developing pupils’ passion for the sports they enjoy. Pupils have access to academic study at GCSE and a wide range of extra -curricular activities and teams are on offer to all of our pupils. Pupils cover a range of sports and activities on a rolling programme including football, netball, table tennis, badminton, handball, cricket, dance, gymnastics, rounders, athletics, fitness, rugby and orienteering. All lessons aim for pupils to be as active as possible, whilst also developing key skills such as resilience, communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
Pupils may study sport through GCSE PE or Cambridge National Sports Studies.
Pupils will receive a well‐rounded introduction to the world of PE, sport, and sport science through the combination of physical performance and academic challenges in GCSE PE including strong performance in three sports.
The Cambridge National Sports Studies course allows pupils to focus on contemporary issues in sport, such as considering the role of the media in sport and working in the sports industry. Our curriculum is designed to provide a blend of practical sports activities and the theory that underpins it to give all pupils a full understanding of sport.
We excel in football, netball, table tennis and cricket and our teams have won many trophies and awards. We offer a number of trips and visits , for example an annual champions league game at the Etihad stadium where many pupils have watched some of the best football teams in Europe such as Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus. We also have trips to watch international cricket games and the netball super league.
